Google Tasks supports scheduled task notifications, but it does not offer a dedicated alarm-clock-style alarm interface with its own persistent ringing or snooze screen. Depending on your device, a task notification can come from Google Tasks, Google Calendar, or another Google app. If you want an additional reminder channel, TaskAlarm can send an email reminder for a Google Task at a time you choose.
The important distinction is between a task notification and a dedicated alarm-clock-style alarm. Google Tasks supports scheduled notifications, but Google's Tasks documentation describes notifications rather than a separate alarm interface like the one in a phone's Clock app.
If you give a task a date and time, Google can notify you at that scheduled time. A dated task without a specific time can notify at 9 AM. What Google Tasks does not provide is a separate alarm screen with its own alarm controls, repeating ring, snooze workflow, and alarm-style interface.
On Android, task notifications can come from the Google app, Google Tasks, or Google Calendar. If multiple supported apps are installed, Google says only one may deliver the notification.
On iPhone and iPad, Google Tasks or Google Calendar can deliver the alert. On a computer, task notifications are handled through Google Calendar.
So Google Tasks absolutely can remind you when a task is due. It just behaves like a notification system rather than a dedicated alarm-clock app.

Keep Google's normal task notifications and add an inbox reminder for the tasks you especially do not want to overlook.
